Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread, Buttermilk Loaf

This Trader Joe’s Pancake Bread is a moist, soft, cinnamon bread like pancake and bread combination that is sweet and cuts like a crumbly pastry. It’s supposed to be a cross between buttermilk pancakes and a loaf of bread, but it really tastes more like a really good coffee cake with crumbles on top. It definitely is worth trying to see if you like the dense and crumbly texture and the super sweet taste. I would never turn down a slice of this, but I wouldn’t say it’s among my favorite desserts at Trader Joe’s. If it didn’t have the name of Pancake Bread, which was a stroke of marketing genius by TJs, I’m not sure people would think of this as much more than a pretty good tasting coffee cake…..…….

Pancake Bread at Trader Joe’s

The bakery department at Trader Joe’s can sometimes be hit or miss since obviously nothing is baked on premises. Pancake Bread has only been around a few years, and it looked like it may only be a temporary holiday treat. It now appears to have gained permanent shelf status, and there’s usually only a few left at my local store. How does everyone compare this to the Trader Joe’s babka or the cinnamon bread? I think this sort of falls somewhere on the higher end of different pastries and sweets in the TJs bakery section. Has anyone made super delicious concoctions with this pancake bread and other goodies like ice cream on top? I bet the pumpkin ice cream plopped on top of this pancake bread would be amazing! Or maybe just a dollop of cookie butter on my slice…..
