Trader Joe’s Mayonnaise, Real Mayo

This Trader Joe’s mayonnaise has a really nice tangy flavor to it, contains ingredients like apple cider vinegar, and is cheaper than a lot of groceries’ mayo. I know that people either seem to love or hate mayonnaise, but even if you don’t like mayo on its own, this is perfect for making chicken salad with, or any other recipes that call for a flavorful standard mayo that doesn’t contain any added junk ingredients. And priced at under $4 for 32 ounces, this is a better value than national brands like Hellman’s and Miracle Whip. TJs has also carried organic mayo and wasabi mayo at different times over the last several years…..…….

Trader Joe’s Mayonnaise made with Apple Cider Vinegar

This Trader Joe’s mayo may taste a tad sweeter than other brands mayo for some reason, but I think the taste of it stacks up with any national brand. How does everyone think the taste of this compares to other mayonnaise you’ve had? If anyone has any great recipes that you’ve used Trader Joe’s mayonnaise in, I’d love to hear! I like that this comes in a 32 oz jar which is a good size so you can easily use it up before it goes bad. And if you can’t make it out to TJs, give these items a try…..

  1. I agree that it’s the best tasting mayonnaise in the market. However mine ran out and I was told by TJ that they will discontinue the Real mayonnaise. From now on, TJ will only carry the organic one . I’m so disappointed. Do you recommend any similar brand ?

    1. I was also informed of this at my local TJs … Unfortunate & disappointing … manufacturers get you hooked on products then arbitrarily discontinue them. Infuriating!

    2. I think we need to do a petition… very upset with the discontinuation. It is the only Mayo that tastes bread that my husband can have

        1. I bought the organic 16 oz of Trader Joe’s Organic Mayonnaise. The first flavor is hints of rancid soy bean oil and it remains as an aftertaste. I won’t buy it again, and I’m tempted to take it back. Trader Joe’s may as well not bother carrying mayonnaise if this is all they have to offer.
Purchased on 11:30:22. at Store 0143; Trans 182804
          PRODUCT DATE Best by: SEP.28 23 11:09.

    3. I am also very disappointed to discover the discontinuation of TJ’s Mayo. I am allergic to soy and this has been my go to since I found it. I have driver over an hour to purchase it’. I am hoping they will reconsider their decision.

  2. Over the 45 years I’ve been a TJ devotee, THIS discontinuance of TJ’s Real Mayonnaise is one of the WORST decisions the company has EVER made! Why? At the very least give us a reason. I’ve tried a half dozen other mayonnaises…and this is the only one that doesn’t taste like someone dropped a bunch of sugar into it. PLEASE RECONSIDER THIS VERY STUPID DECISION. Today, everyone in the store was talking about it and complaining. Oh, and btw, the organic stuff (in the small jar) TJ’s is trying to fob off onto its customers tastes terrible and it is TOO EXPENSIVE. The shelf was full of it this afternoon….no one was buying it.

    1. The mayonnaise was one of the first TJ’s products.
They would do “taste-offs” with employees and choose the best tasting product.
That would be the only product they would stock (due to limited shelf space).
Originally the mayonnaise was made by L.A. based Youngs market company…it beat out best foods.
TJ’s has no sense of history

  3. Went to our TJ’S today and was also told they have discontinued their mayonnaise. No reason given.whtheir manufacturer is? The manager even said the mayonnaise was very popular. Very disappointed in TJ.

  4. Is there a way to ask them to bring this back? Their “organic” mayo is full of additional ingredients including sugar.

  5. We too loved the tj real mayonnaise. We bought the other small jar and were very disappointed in the flavor and ingredients. Won’t buy it again that’s for sure.
Hope they get smart and bring the one back.

  6. I also will not buy their little organic mayo or thei avocado mayo. They discontinued the only good mayo. I can buy a no added Sprouts mayo but it has soybean oil which I don’t want.

  7. I completedly agree with E.R. Heron. This is a travesty. My local TJ’s people agreed with me and that LOTS of people were voicing that this was a horrible, HORRIBLE decision…

  8. I am also VERY DISSAPPOINTED to discover the discontinuation of TJ’s Mayo. I am allergic to soy and this has been my go to since I found it. I always stock up on this, because I travel a distance to get it. I am hoping they will RECONSIDER their decision.

  9. I am heartbroken. The first time I tried the real mayonnaise my heart sang …..this is the way mayonnaise should taste and I never bought any other kind…trader joe has lost me because I went just for this item and of course ended up buying a full basket of other items….I also will not purchase the little jar of organic…I have tried it and no way…..
I hope another grocer will pick this up

  10. I agree with everyone this was a great Mayo. And it had no preservatives like hellmans. I am so disappointed in the store owners. However Trader Joe’s does not make this Mayo. We need to find out who does. An employee told me that .

  11. Agree with the other comments. TJ Real Mayo is the best. I really hope they bring it back. The other mayonaise’s do not compare to the taste of the Real Mayo. Very disappointed.

  12. The only thing I go to TJ’s for is their Mayo, but since I’m there I shop. Will NEVER go to TJ’s again. Worst decision ever made. IDIOTS ! ! ! ! Costco does that too, like wtf.

  13. Please, please, please bring back tj real Mayo. I am so very sad, and upset it’s gone. It’s the absolute best ever. Why? Why did you take it away. Everything I made with it was so fantastic. Please reconsider bringing it back. I would be so happy.

    1. I’m sure you’re shocked to be getting an email so late since the mayo was dc’d at TJ’s. I still want it back. Did write TJ customer service several times, even about 2 weeks ago and checked the box to send a reply. Of course, no reply yet and honestly, I don’t expect one! TJ’s doesn’t listen anymore to it’s customers in my opinion. Me and many friends have stopped shopping there due to such changes. They put out new products loaded with sugar and said to me they stopped the mayo cuz too expensive to make anymore! Huh! Told them most would still buy it if they made it in spite of the price increase. Deaf ears for sure. Ok, had to vent even tho has been a while. TJ’s isn’t the same anymore with customer service, sorry to say.

  14. I was told by a TJ’s employee that it was their supplier who cut them off. Super disappointed as this was my favorite mayo. Does anyone know who makes it? And where we can buy it?

  15. I am extremely disappointed. Only gluten free mayo I like. Not sure why it was discontinued but it’s a very bad decision. I have been shopping at this since I was in high school in mid-70’s. First the discontinued their French Village Apricot Mango, which I am still mourning, and now this. Not cool, TJ’s.

  16. Time and again. There are indeed some dysfunctional knuckleheads at their product boards. However folks since living well has always been the best revenge, let’s make it ourselves:
    Instructions

In bowl, combine yolks, vinegar, water and mustard. Whisk together until mixture is slightly foamy.
Gradually add canola oil in a thin stream, constantly beating with whisk until incorporated and mayonnaise is thick.
Add salt, pepper and lemon juice.
Cover and refrigerate. It should be good at least a week to ten days. Enjoy!
