This Trader Joe’s Spanakopita may or may not be authentic spanakopita, but it does the trick for a quick and easy appetizer. Pop these in the oven, crisp them up and bite into a doughy, spinach filled heat pocket. If I was ranking Trader Joe’s appetizers, these would not be at the top of my list, but they are definitely good for people that don’t want any meat in their appetizer at a party. The box comes with twelve 1 ounce sized pieces, and they do give your kitchen a pleasant doughy and rich smell as they bake. You definitely have to love spinach and feta to enjoy these. At 170 calories for every three pieces, they actually are not that bad for you, considering they are basically cheese filled dough. Put these in the oven and invite your favorite non meat eating friend over. Or just eat them yourself while standing over the counter. Not that I ever eat appetizers by myself in one sitting!…..…….

Trader Joe’s Spanakopita Pie
I’ve only cooked these a handful of times so I’m not sure what other appetizers or entrees would go well with this spanakopita. Is there a specific sauce or condiment that these should be dipped in or served with? I’m sure these probably are poor imitations of legit spanakopita, but I guess it all depends on what you’re used to. Any Greek recipes for spanakopita would be great to know, since sometimes you just feel like homemade. I did notice that the packaging doesn’t mention Greece or Greek style, probably an acknowledgement from TJ’s that these aren’t attempting to be a super authentic version of spanakopita…..
