Trader Joe’s Lentil Soup, Organic with Vegetables

This Trader Joe’s lentil soup is a hearty and good tasting soup that comes in a box in the soup aisle. There is also a TJs lentil soup version in the refrigerated section that I found to be a little heartier and thicker. This one has a nice flavor of lentils, onions, carrots, tomatoes and a bunch of spices. It won’t blow your mind, but it does the job as a good vegan meal full of nutrients for a price under $2! That’s tough to beat, especially considering a lot of the national soup brands lentil soup is full of added unhealthy ingredients. Ever since I tried Trader Joe’s farro and other so called ancient grains, I didn’t realize how good they were at packing in nutrients in a neutral tasting and easy to make way. Farro is especially chewy so I think I prefer that over lentils sometimes, but both are delicious and a good bang for your nutrient buck ………….

Lentil Soup at Trader Joe’s

What lentil soup recipes does everyone like to make when they aren’t having it out of a box like this? I have tried to make some lentil soup with the Trader Joe’s steamed lentils but haven’t had much success with the right flavors or vegetables to add. I’d imagine there are some delicious vegetarian entrees or sandwiches that would go really well with a hot bowl of this Tjs lentil soup on the side. I really like the chewiness and heartiness of lentils, a grain I really had not tried much before discovering it in it’s many forms at Trader Joe’s. Do people favor the refrigerated version over this boxed version because of the different texture and freshness aspect? Here’s a few other options if you can’t make it to TJs…..

  1. I’d enjoy this soup a lot more if it wasn’t loaded with, I think, black pepper. They only list örganic spices, so I’m not sure.

    What I know ïs that even after adding a little bit of low sodium vegetable broth (NOT spicy), it was still way spicier that I’d like. I won’t be able to have this soup again unless I have a congested nose – and something to soothe my esophagus later on 🙂
