Trader Joe’s Kringle, Danish Style

Trader Joe’s Danish Kringle is a flat, ring shaped pastry that has icing on top and is filled with yummy, sugary filling. This is one of the few products at TJ’s that is sold in other groceries, with identical packaging. The $7.99 price at Trader Joe’s tends to be cheaper than other grocery stores. If you pop this in the oven for 3 minutes at around 425 degrees you will have a gooey delicious pastry that tastes homemade. At different times there is also a Pumpkin Danish Kringle and Almond Danish Kringle that is sold. I think the original Trader Joe’s Kringle is the best of the bunch…….…….

Trader Joe’s Danish Kringle

Sometimes the nearly $8 price of the danish kringle seems a little steep to be honest, but it does weigh in at a pound hand a half, which is pretty significant for a coffee cake style pastry. Has anyone been so brave as to but butter or jam on their kringle, or is that frowned upon? I feel like people love this so much that they usually just eat it plain. Hot. And very, very quickly! Let me know your favorite flavor of danish kringle and how exactly you love to eat these delicious pastry coffee cakes! The only negative is sometimes after eating a kringle I think to myself that maybe I would have rather just had a super rich and buttery regular coffee cake instead. Either way you can’t really go wrong. Plus, these are still made in Racine, Wisconsin at a local bakery, which is pretty cool. Cheers to the holiday season and the Trader Joe’s Danish Kringle being back in stock! If you can’t make it out to TJs, give these items a try…..

  1. This trader joe’s kringle is the BEST! Slice of kringle, cup of coffee & my Saturday morning is off to a great start. I just ignore the nutrition facts =). I’ve never seen the trader joes pumpkin kringle you mention. Do they sell it?

    1. Thanks Bob. Sounds like you have a great routine going with the Trader Joe’s Kringle! They’ve sold the pumpkin kringle variety in the past but I haven’t seen it recently. I’ll update if I see it pop back up.

  2. I lived in Racine WI for nearly 30 years. It is home to several kringle companies, but O&H was always my favorite – so I’m thrilled to see it sold at Trader Joe’s. Kringle is served constantly in Racine – brunch, luncheons, funerals, you name it. But it’s never heated – just room temp. Cream cheese filling is the best. 🙂

  3. I know this post is aged but referring to it as “Trader Joe’s Danish Kringle” isn’t right. It’s O&H Bakery kringle that Trade Joe’s sells. If Joe’s sold Campbell’s soup and Coors beer would you call them Trader Joe’s soup and beer? No. I’m a Racine native and know first hand that O&H is awesome. They’ll directly ship it to you, too.

  4. As your review is about O&H kringle, the kringle.com link should not be included. That’s not O&H. This is: https://www.ohdanishbakery.com.

And, IMO, if kringle.com is the outfit I think it is, their kringle can’t touch O&H’s.

P.S. Kringle is not served hot. But if it’s been frozen or getting to be a few days old, a warming or quick nuking brings back some life.

P.P.S. I’ve never seen anyone put anything on kringle. It’s considered complete, as is. And I’ve seen plenty of kringle get consumed. Now, it takes all kinds in this world. I’m sure there are outliers but outliers they would be.

P.P.P.S. It’s nothing like coffee cake. If done right, it’s closer to a low-riser stuffed croissant (with much less material): it’s pastry is puff, not cakey.

P.P.P.P.S. I have no link to O&H except as a fan of decades.
